LV Proposals Engineer / Junior Proposals Engineer

Our client is seeking a Proposals Engineer or a Junior Proposals Engineer for the LV team,

To perform a technical estimating/bid/proposal’s role for the Motor Control Centre (MCC)/Switchboards/Control Panel (LV) offering. To evaluate and deliver high quality, accurate, and competitive technical proposals. This will involve liaising closely with the client, engineering and production teams, throughout the bids.
This role is also open to a junior applicant who has some knowledge and industrial experience of the Essential Skills listed below. A structured training programme and ongoing mentoring will be given.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Carry out the initial review of the scope and technical requirements of the tender enquiry package. Notify senior management team and record any significant commercial, technical, or contractual risks associated with the enquiry. These will be recorded and reviewed/mitigated before the client submission. Liaise with client throughout the bid process to clarify requirements before preparing and submitting the proposal.
  1. Preparation of accurate and competitive labour and material costings utilising the estimating package/costs sheets. This may require obtaining sub-contractor/supplier pricing.
  1. Liaise with engineering to obtain relevant technical information, clarify requirements, obtain estimates, and to agree the proposed solution.
  1. Organise and take part in the internal technical review of the proposal costings.
  1. Following the cost review, producing a high quality and professional technical proposal document. Ensure that the tender proposal is clear, unambiguous and protects the company’s commercial position. The design responsibility and deliverable requirements will be clearly identified and documented in the technical proposal.
  1. Attend site visits and review meetings with Client, as required.
  1. Ensure that proposals are followed up at agreed intervals with the clients and this is recorded in the CRM (such as expected order date, competitive position etc). This will include updating the Key Account Manager to the status of the bid, where required.
  1. Attend an internal kick-off meeting with the project team should the tender be successful.
  1. Involvement with continuous improvement, innovation and estimating tool developments.

Essential Skills
Technical knowledge of the following: –

Low Voltage design – MCCs, Switchboards and Control Panels. Knowledge of electrical distribution theory, cable sizing data, motor control techniques and field instrumentation systems. Knowledge of electrical control and protection.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation and with clients.

For a junior role, basic knowledge of the above will be acceptable.
Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 Engineering or equivalent.
Possessing, or working towards, a relevant engineering degree or equivalent

Salary between £40,000 and 50,000 depending on experience and technical knowledge.
